Explorer Icon Problem with Windows 7
I have two systems both running Windows 7 RTM. The desktop (Bliss) is a 4 gigabyte Extreme. The notebook is a Lenovo t61p (MinervaII)heavy on features and CPU (T7800). It also runs 4 gb of memory.I have differing results when attempting to change the Explorer Main Icon.Bliss changes Icons easily. Just right clicking on the explorer icon yields a jump list on which the Explorer Icon(1)is one of choices. Right-clicking onExplorer (*)yields four choices, the last of which is "Properties". Making this choice yields a drop down (labeled Window ExplorerProperties)with 6 tabs. I chose the "Shortcut" tab and chose the 'Change Icon' button and changed the Icon. On the Lenovo, nothing happens with the right-clicking on the Windows Explorer choice on the drop down (1).Has anyone any ideas?

The difference between the two systems is that with the Lenovothe Windows Explorer jumplist , selecting Explorer on the jumplistjust gives an explorer as opposed to the 6-tabdialogue box that enables you to change the icon. I see the 64 bit Extreme system doing this but not at the 100% percent rate that I see the Lenovo doing it.Renee

Hi, since the issue occurs randomly on your laptop, I suggest you check the issue in clean boot mode to see whether the issue is caused by a certain third party application. Here: Clean Boot mode Although the steps are for Vista, they are also fit for Win 7. Have it a try. Besides, the issue may be caused by corrupt user profile. You can check the issue in a new user account. Here: How to Create, Delete and Modify User Accounts in Windows 7 Regards. Cecilia Zhou

Actually the problem was fixed the other day. It became apparent that I had fixed the problem but it required a reboot to make it apparent.Renee

I have found that aright-click on the icon will give you a sheet that says "properties". The selection of Change Icon will give an choice of icons.Renee
