Explorer: Items seems to be selected on the Navigation Pane and in the Files Window at the same time
I guess I have just found a bug in Windows 7 Explorer. (As far as I can see, this issue was present in Vista as well...? I can't check.) The topic about the Vista version is here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistasp/thread/713acec3-66d2-4758-a8d6-3d577d0b3173/?prof=required&wa=wsignin1.0 I repost it, because that topic is marked as Answered. So my problem is, that in certain cases Explorer looks like, if a folder was selected on the Navigation Pane and an other one in the Main file window at the same time. This can be very annoying when it comes to deleting some of my files, and I accidentally delete the whole folder instead of a sub-folder. Here are the details about it: Re-Creation: You need a folder at any location and a sub-folder inside it. Go into the sub-folder by selecting it on the Navigation Pane or double clicking on it in the Main file window. (makes no difference) Go back to the upper folder by selecting it on the Navigation Pane. What you get: The upper folder is selected in Blue color on the Navigation Pane The sub-folder is selected in the same Blue in the Main file window. In fact the parent folder is selected, so if you press del, the parent folder will be deleted. The problem: In the Main file window, the file icons sometimes much larger (Medium Icons or Large Icons view), and it is visually confusing, that the large Blue selected item in the center of the screen is not the actual selection. Strange that if you click on the Parent folder in the Navigation Pane again and again, the sub-folder still looks like it was selected. But if you select it in the Main file window, than click back to the Parent folder on the Navigation pane, the sub-folder's selection is grayed out, as it should be. It shows me, that it is not a design concept but a bug in windows explorer. It is even more in-consequent, since if you go back to the parent folder by clicking on it in the Breadcrumb Bar instead of the Navigation Pane, the sub-folder is selected in the same blue, but now it is your actual selection, as it should be. OS info: Windows 7 Version 6.1 Build 7600 It is some kind of problem Microsoft should sort out, am I right? At least if it can be re-created on other machines...

Hi Grapestain, Thank you for reporting this issue. Actually, this is a known focus issue in Windows Explorer. I checked our bug database, and the case log shows the bug should be fixed in sooner. Thanks.

This seems to still be a problem. Is there any date for resolution???? Some info: In Windows Explorer, with navigation pane (left) showing folders: 1. Click on a folder in the navigation pane. Folder in navigation pane is highlighted in blue 2. Click on an item (file or folder) in the right hand pane. Item is highlighted in blue, folder in navigation pane is grayed out 3. Click on the folder in the navigation pane (same folder as in step 1.) Both the folder in navigation pane and the item in right hand pane are highlighted in blue Using up/down arrows, can select other folders in navigation pane. Both folder and right hand pane item will be highlighted Right hand pane item is shown in details pane at bottom (though it's interesting that for a fraction of a second after clicking on the nav. pane folder, that folder is shown in the details pane, but then the right pane item is shown in details.) 4. Press delete Will prompt to delete folder highlighted in navigation pane Running Windows 7 Enterprise, Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) Also does it on my Windows 7 Ultimate (SP 1) machine Most things set up in "classic" view Pete

While the issue is not resolved the thread is answered IMO. Would keeping the thread open help with getting the bug fixed?
