Exclude LYNC conferencing Global policy based on network site

We have LYNC 2010 Enterprise Pool and Enabled Audio Video as Global Policy. However based on bandwidth issues, we need to exclude some remote sites (network sites like some small site Asia and Europe) from global policy and enable user policy ( without Audio Video). How can we exclude based on network sites? What is the best method and is there any good script to exclude sites?

Thanks in advance for your help

When you assign a policy to user/site it should take precedence over the global policy.

If you don't assign a specific policy it will revert to the global policy.

"Conferencing user rights and permissions automatically default to those defined in the global-level conferencing policy when no specific site-level or per-user policy is assigned" http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg521015.aspx

This sounds like something that would be handled better by using Call Admission Control.  You can limit the bandwidth used by both audio and video streams on a per session and an overall total basis.  Check the docs here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398842.aspx

We have only one LYNC site, no branch sites. I am looking to apply AV Enabled policy as Global policy and exclude some physical sites (from AD sites and services) due to bandwidth issue.

You won't be able to apply conferencing policies to a physical site.  You can apply them globally, to a Lync site (since you only have one Lync site, this would be the same as global for you), or to individual users.

To limit A/V from physical network sites, you should use Call Admission Control.  You define your network subnets in Lync and associate those with Lync network sites.  You can then create a CAC policy for those network sites that limit bandwidth used for A/V.  You can set limits for the entire bandwidth consumed by all users and per individual stream.  I believe the lower limit for video is 100 kb for both the aggregate and the individual stream, so while you can't stop video entirely, you can essentially limit it to 1 stream per site at any given instant.  Everyone else at that site would be denied video.

I have a script that will translate AD sites/subnets into Lync sites/subnets.  It isn't perfect, but its a good start: http://ucken.blogspot.ca/2013/04/automatically-creating-lync-sites-and.html

Hi,

just fyi....

Unfortunately Site Conferencing Policies wouldn't take place. You can create and assign them to users in a branch but it has no effect. Only the global policy or user conferencing policies will work in a branch. I have faced this issue when i wanted to allow dial in conferencing only in a branch site but my site conferencing policy (with Dial in conferencing enabled) wont work unless i switched to user-based conferencing policy.
