Hi Shane,Sounds like you have (or did have) 3rd party software that was previously managing your wireless connections, so the Windows in built service does not start automatically.Check the following Microsoft KB Article, see if this fixes it for you;http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/871122Specifically:If your computer or your wireless network adapter did not come with its own wireless network software, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, and then click OK. Click Network Connections. In Network Connections, click to select your wireless connection, and then click Change settings of this connection. On the Wireless Networks tab, click to select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box. To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK. Let me know how you get on.

Well Dell truemobile 1300 WLAN MINI PC wireless card. It is a rerubushed computer and when i got it the wireless card was messed up and i had to send it back to the company and they put this wireless card in it and didnt configure it because it wasnt covered by warrenty. It also has internet explorer 8. The wireless card is built in. It has service pack 3 on it.
November 19th, 2009 3:21am

Hi Becky,If the PC was refurbished, it may be worth ensuring all the hardware devicesare corectly installed/recognised, as it sounds likeyou have had problems before with it.Right Click on My Computer, Click Manage. In the Computer management window, expand device manager. Any incorrectly installed devices will be indicated.Once thats checked, the Dell truemobile 1300 WLAN MINI PC device normally has its own software utility installed. You didntstate if its installedin yoursituation however. It may solve your problemby installing this software if not present. You can download the latest version of the software from Dells Website, go to http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cat=sup&cs=19&rpp=12&p=1&subcat=dyd&rf=all&nk=t&sort=K&ira=False&~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&~ck=anavand enter your service tag. If you are not sure where to find this, click the "find my service tag" link on the linkedpage.Having done this, you will be able to download the Dell truemobile 1300 WLAN driver & utility (check the version you download appliesto your international region)Also heres a link to the online manual for the Dell truemobile 1300 WLAN:http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/network/p54164/en/index.htm as that may assist you in configuring it if you are not familiar.

I checked the device manager and it said it was working properly. The place where i got the computer had to put a new wireless card in, because the one it had in it wasnt working properly and i called them and they said they could help me because it wasnt under warrenty. The rest of the computer is under warrenty but not the wireless card. It has a built in wireless card, Do i need to download the following links above?

Hi JJ I am trying to log on to my wireless network from home I have one lap top that works fine and connects and the other one doesnt and I am about to go nuts. The one that doesn't work doesn't seem to have the WZC service. I tried to follow the directions in your reply to Shane on November 4th but the tabs under my network properties say General, and the Advanced the 2nd tab Network Connections is not there. Can you help?

Hello there (my English is may not so good , I am from Holland). I have a Dell laptop 1501 Inspiron and had the same problems. I did an uninstall of Dell Network Assitant and than I only could make a wireless connection bij hand (see JJ_Russel above). The problem was that my Dell WLAN-card disabled the Windows Wireless Zero-Conficuration (WZC). The solution was: - System, Hardware, Devices, Networkadaptors: select the Wireless WLAN-card - Properties, Advancded - Ethernet by WZC: the value has to be "switched on". *) - OK *) Maybe my text is not exactly. because by me it's all in Dutch.

Hi KatB54, I do not have an answer but your post was very helpful. I had precisely the same problem with my Acer Netbook. At least I can now get access to the wireless network tab, albeit by restarting my Acer twice. Why this should work is a complete mystery! Have you made any further progress since 11 Dec.? Hi Slim, Maybe on your computer there is third-party software to manage your wireless connection; see my text above from Saturday, January 09, 2010 1:27 PM. In my computer it was Dell Network Assistant and I first did an uninstall.

Every time I start up the computer I have lost the wireless capacity. I get the WZC error '871122'. I then have to start the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Is there something I can do so I don't have to do this each time? I have just changed my internet provider to BT, and am using a BT HomeHub 2. It seems as if when the homehub kicks in, it is turning the Microsoft Configuration off, so I have to re-start it. I have tried changing the setting to "automatic" but it doesn't help.

I seems to be that the BT takes over the control from your wireless network in stead of Windows (see above in this page of this topic). May be you can change something in the BT software. The are some answers too about this problem on this website: http://www.filesaveas.com/ (select or look for BT Homehub or Wireless or WiFi).
April 6th, 2010 4:21pm

In relation to BT Homehub software: According to: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091219144303AAmIteZ If you want BT to manage your wireless connection you need to:"* Turn OFF the "Wireless Zero Configuration" (in XP) or "Wireless AutoConfig" (in Vista) service.* Turn ON the "Wireless Adaptor Configurator" service. If you want Windows to manage your wireless connection you need to:* Turn ON the "Wireless Zero Configuration" (in XP) or "Wireless AutoConfig" (in Vista) service.* Turn OFF the "Wireless Adaptor Configurator" service." I'll add that you will be best setting the properties of the service you do not wish to run to disabled. However its possible that the ISP software may still re-enable the service. (You also state that you moved ISP, so ensure you dont still have further wireless management software provided by the old ISP.)

Thanks for this. I have looked on my list of services, and "Wireless Adaptor Configurator" is not on the list. I am using a ASUS A6M series laptop. Do I need to look somewhere else? Thanks again. Flo

Hi. Started up the computer this morning, and it came on on its own (Wireless Zero Configurator). Maybe I just need to leave it longer to sort itself out?? Flo. No, ignore this, shut it down lunchtime, and when I re-started it, it had gone off again! :(

It's Saturday and I too had this problem since 8 hours ago with my newly acquired router. Everything was fine with a recent netbook pc but for my old desktop & laptop I got a Dynamode dongle. Basically this device wasn't acceptable to Windows. However in a separate forum http://social.msdn.microsoft.com a guy called Texice has provided a good answer. If you can't get there . . . How to enable Wireless Zero Congiguration his answer is type services.msc in Run and enter find and enter the "wireless configuration" double click/change the startup type to "automatic" Problem solved for me and others. Hope it also helps you.
April 11th, 2010 12:45am

Thanks for this, but it doesn't work for me. Every time I shut down the computer, the next time I turn it on, the Wireless Zero Configuration is off, and needs to be started again. This is even fter I have changed startup type to "automatic". The man from BT said I have a conflict between my computer and the homehub, and couldn't advise any help.

I think I have stumbled on this thread too late as this last post was a month ago! I have a homehub2 as well and I am having the same issue as you (i.e I have to run wireless zero configuration every time I turn on my laptop so that I can turn on wireless networks...) Have you had any success since this last post? anything? i'm desperate... this is getting ANNOYING!

Installed Windows Server 2003 R2 / SP2 on my HP Pavillion ZV6000 (to run DHCP, DNS, WINS, WSUS, NAS). Installed drivers. They are for XP but seem to work fine, except my Wireless NIC (Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN). After every reboot, "Wireless Configuration" (WZCSVC) would start and for some reason stop (no reason given in EventVwr). I had to go through the rigamarole of starting the WZC service, resetting the Wireless NIC to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" and letting the NIC connect to my WAP. Painful to say the least.Searched hi/lo all over the place for a solution. Suggestions/solutions ranged from the issue being caused by a virus, a group policy conflict/misconfiguration, 3rd party NIC software conflict, certificate issues, re-registering the component due to DCOM errors, etc. None of the "solutions" proposed worked or were even slightly applicable. I even set the "Recovery" options to restart the service (even though it never actually failed). On a whim, looked at the actual Wireless NIC properties (ncpa.cpl -> Properties of the NIC -> Configure -> Advanced; can also be done from devmgmt.msc). In addition to some optimization/tweaking parameters there was a property named "WZC Managed Ethernet". This was set to "Disabled". Changed it to "Enabled", rebooted and eureka, the f'ing NIC auto-connected without any manipulation. I've had to make changes to other services since there is a "long" delay in connecting to the network, but my system is alive!!!!No gurantee that this is the answer for everyone, but wouldn't hurt to check it out. Good luck...AntGut

I was able to complete the first section OK. As a matter of fact, I already had to do this every time I started my computer. However, when I tried the WZC section of instructions, I got the message: "Windows cannot find 'c:\WINDOWS\system32\mcs/s' Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." To search for a file, click the Start Button and then click Search. What do I do now?Sharon Parker

Gert-N you got it right...!!! Those steps for sure fixed the issue. The only other detail I would add that may also fix the problem is in Control Panel there is an icon for "Wireless Configuration Utility". There is an option in there "Let this tool manage your wireless networks". I removed the checkmark but I only saw that after following Gert-N's instructions. So not sure if one or the either was all that was needed to resolve the issue but either way, my problem is gone!!!By the way, Gert-N, your English is just fine. I wouldn't want to try this in Dutch, so good going... Here are the same instructions following an English based Windows system:Control Panel; System; Hardware; Device Manager; Right click Wireless WLAN; properties; Advanced Tab; WZC Managed Ethernet -> set value to "enabled".Once again, thanks for all the help.

I am having the same problem. I tried 3 of the solutions listed here to no avail. The ethernet thing is on, and the wzc starts but windows still isnt managing my connection and my computer doesnt see the wifi or detect conection to dsl via my ethernet cable. I know the net connection is working as this computer is connected to the same router and uses the web just fine. Virus kicked my other computers butt and Im waiting on Toshiba to send me recovery disks that actually work. meanwhile my dell passed its warranty a week ago and i desperately need it for nursing school.
