Hi prasc, Step 1: You may start with running a scan on your computer for malware/virus.How to get rid of malwarehttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/ba80504b-61f1-4d71-960f-b561798b7b42Step 2: If step 1 does not resolve the issue, follow this step to run SFC scan on your computer. Please follow the steps as below to run the System File Checker Tool: 1. Click Start and then type cmd in the Start Search box. 2. In the results area, right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator. You will be prompted to type the password for an administrator account. Click Continue if you are the administrator or type the administrator password. Then, click Continue. 3. At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER. (You also may run sfc /scannow from Task Manager>> New Task.) Note: The scan may take some time, so be patient. Windows will repair any corrupted or missing files that it finds. If information from the installation CD is needed to repair the problem, you may be prompted to insert your Windows Vista CD. For reference you may visit the following KB Article link:"How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista":http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212 Step 3: In case the second step fails as well, it may be possible that the user account might have corrupted. Hi, Start the computer in safe mode with networking and check if it works there. The Advanced Boot Options menu lets you start Windows in advanced troubleshooting modes. You can access the menu by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/323ef48f-7b93-4079-a48a-5c58eec904a11033.mspx If it works in safe mode, go ahead with the steps provided in the given article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929135 hope it helps!!!
