Events in Event Log over 2 years old.
I have a computer in my office suffering from incredibly slow speeds for the first 10-15 minutes after it's booted up.While trying to diagnose that problem, I was checking the event logs to see if anything was fishy. It was then that I noticed that the last event in the system event log is dated June 2008!!!What in the world would cause that? I'm getting no errors about the event log being full or anything. But, could that still be the case? What would cause the event log to just stop logging events?Thanks!1 person got this answerI do too

Right-click on one of the categories (Application, Security, etc.) and pick Properties. Check the radio button next to 'Overwrite events as needed.' You can change the 'Maximum log size' also if you so desire. Click Apply, OK. You'll have to do this for each category.SC Tom-There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

They're already set to overwrite anything older than 7 days. The application log, for example, has current items in it. Only the system log is acting this way.The log file size is set to the (I assume) default of 512KB. Should I up that? Seems like as it's set, it should be fine. It's just not overwriting the old stuff.

You can set the size to anything you want. I have all of mine set to 64KB and have never had a problem of not seeing anything. You checked the settings for each log, I assume? On your System log, click on the Restore Defaults button, click Apply, OK. Clear the log, then go back into Properties and set it to 'Overwrite events as needed.'SC Tom-There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.
