Event ID 2021, Application exits after Fatal Error.
System Configuration is as follows. Intel Dual Quad Core, 24GB DDR3, NVidia Quadro FX3800 1GB, 1TB HDD. Windows Xp 64bit, 1Gig LAN. Application Maya 2009. Graphics driver is the latest available. While working on Maya or when user is creating a playblast, we get a Fatal Wrror Message with event ID 2021. What could be the problem? Page File sis set to 48000. We used to get low virtual memory with anything less that this value!! Please advice. regards Anth. 2 people need an answerI do too

Sounds like you're experiencing non-paged pool depletion. Verify this by configuring symbols in Sysinternals Process Explorer and displaying the System Information window. Monitor the Nonpaged value and see if it grows unbounded towards the Nonpaged limit until you start experiencing the referenced behavior. (If you don't configure symbols in PE, you won't get the Nonpaged limit to resolve.) If you do notice this, you can investigate which pool tag is associated with the most NP memory using poolmon.exe.

Thanks!, We will check as suggested. Haven't done it before so will have see how to go about it. :-)

I'm experiencing something similar while rendering with 3DS Max and the network rendering manager Backburner. Whats happening with me is that after submitting a render job to my render server it processes the render but fails to save it right at the end. Backburner gives me the error message "Not enough server storage space is available to process this command" My Windows error log shows the error ID 2021 at this time. (I've already tried increasing the IRPStackSize to 20 on both my machines, which has reduced any lag in accessing network folders, but has not resolved the issue). Another error I've received from backburner is "Error message: Tif Error: TIFFOpen - \\Render-node-01\E\jobfolder - Filename.tif: Cannot open ; TIF - Unknown Error". Again the image file has refused to save after rendering. Any ideas? Should I use Process Explorer?

The prescribed technique can work to gather more information in your case as well.

I have done as you have prescribed but the nonpaged limit is not reached. Error ID 2021 still occurs. Could it be a networking issue?

The message and conditions you describe suggest that some finite resource is being depleted. What OS do you use?Perhaps, have a run through this, though it is largely meant for server OSs.How to troubleshoot Event ID 2021 and Event ID 2022

I am using XP 64Bit for both machines. They are connected up via a network hub, along with other office computers.I've tried the link you have suggested and have gone through the troubleshoot. Unfortunately I get stuck at"How to Change the Server Service Properties". I can not access the Properties dialog for"File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks".I do have some new info - I have used Backburner many times since I first emailed you. Sometimes the image saves. In most cases, if the image is small (say 1200 x 900PX) it always works. If the image being rendered is large (say 4000 x 3000PX in 24bit colour) it fails 9 times out of 10. I can access my shared folders on the Render Server but most times there is a 10 second lag, sometimes I get an error message.I use another program called Microsoft Rich Copy to dublicate the texture library on both my desktop and the Render Server. When I try to copy data to the server I get an error message within that program stating "Not enough server storage is available to process this command" Code 1130. Eventually I can get the data to copy over but only after running the copy process several times.Any ideas?

This isn't the first time I've heard of this type of issue when moving large quantities of data around, but I'm challenged to recall or find a precise suggestion that will help. What size are the files you're attempting to copy or save?

The renders are around 20 - 40MB each, not too big at all. The files I'm copying over using Rich Copy are anything from a few kB to 10MB. I've looked up on the Net for possible causes for Error ID 2021. One of them pointed to the IRPStackSize value in the Registry being altered by several programs, causing the error. Those programs were Norton Antivirus and Acronis Backup. I had Acronis on my computer but uninstalled it to see if that worked - it didnt. When other people wrote back they said increasing the IRPStackSize fixed the problem, it didn't in my case.

Those don't seem excessive large, as you indicate. How many of the files are there?Have you tried to replicate this in a "safe mode with networking" environment, or by trying to isolate the involved components (uninstall AV software [uninstall so the drivers are completely removed from the picture]), clean boot to eliminate other running programs, etc.?How are you copying the files - RichCopy? Can you use a different file copy technique (cmd.exe's copy or xcopy, or explorer) to try to reproduce the problem?

I've tried copying through explorer large amounts of data to the Render Node but it doesn't crash/give an error message.Haven't tried the "safe mode with networking" option yet, or uninstalling. I will try those next.Another bit of info - when the Render Node fails to save the image, I get the error ID 2021 (that you know), but I also get an error message on my desktop in Event Viewer. That error is ID 2011 with the source as "srv". Does srv stand for "server", or in my case my "Render Node"? The error refers to the IRPStackSize being too small, but I have maxed it to 50, the largest value possible.

srv is the Server SMB 1.x driver.Would be interesting to note the behavior with the AV software removed.

I think I have solved the problem. It was the amount of virtual memory allocated on the render server. I've been reading on other forums that you need to tell windows XP to allocate double the amount of physical RAM. In my case I had 12GB so I had to allocate 24GB of virtual memory on my primary hard disk. Now the error I was recieving didn't mention this, I simply started looking at the problems other people were having. I'll keep posting if any other problems come up - but you were right No.Compromise - a finite resource was being depleted.

That's interesting. VM Sizing guidance can be found in the "How Big Should I Make the Paging File?" section of Pushing the Limits of Windows: Virtual Memory. It would be interesting to note your commit charge peak...
