Event ID 10010 error during shutdown only when using new video card driver.
There are reports of the above error in event viewer when a certain (current version) driver is installed. To give more details it's only happens during shut down (if you look at the time stamp and take note of the exact time the PC shuts down). This only started happening with the current driver release. Once the driver is uninstalled the problem ceases. When using an older driver the problem doesn't show up in the event viewer. Is there anything a user can do to fix this in Win7? Or is it a problem with the driver itself? Hi, Thanks for posting in TechNet forum Based on the error you got, please refer to this: Event ID 10010 COM General functionality. As you found, if you uninstall the new video driver, the message would disappear. What the model of your video card? This error could be resulted by the application code, I recommend you contact the application developer so they can debug and fix the issue. Here's a similar discussion about AMD ATI driver: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=3972177 As a workaround, you can use the old driver, and also contact your video card manufacture for further reasearch. Thanks for the reply. I've checked the Dcom Security tab and have no idea what it's default values are. But I'm sure that I've not manually changed them prior to updating drivers. If the error is the result of the driver itself then I guess it's best to contact the video card manufacture for further research. Then revert to an earlier driver for now, thanks!

Hello ECH1, I just noticed this event in my log as well today. Coincidentally, AMD/ATI rolled-out a new version of Catalyst (11.9) with an updated driver just today, whichs notes in its release fixes: "The Windows Event Log no longer reports unwanted Distributed DCOM errors." You can go ahead and download the new version now and that should fix your problem! I found this out thanks to the diligent folks at 3D Guru (http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=343572).
