Event 1002 Error , DHCP-Client
I have a BEFSR41 V.2 Linksys Router that is connected to my 2 PCs using Cable Modem. I have been having an occasional problem with Vista dropping my internet connection. It occurred this morning and I unplugged/replugged the Router and I was able to get online ok. I looked in my Vista Event Viewer and see that the following error has occurred5 times in the last 7 days. The error is: Event 1002, DHCP-Client "The IP address lease 192.168.1.35 for the Network address 0018F390EEC6 has been denied by the DHCP Server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message)." Do I need to buy a new Linksys Router that is compatible with Vista or is there a fix for this issue. Thank you for your help with this.

Yes, Check with LinkSys support, they might have some firmware update to support VISTA.

Thank you for your response. I did post a message at Linksys help forum butthere's no response thus far. Firmware is updated to latest. Looks like a new router is needed.

YIKES! What kind of answer is that? If DHCP worked under XP, now he's got Vista, how did you decide to tell him to buy a router? That is a crazy first step buddy. DHCP is supposed to be a standard. Explain what his router could possibly be doing to cause this.

I truly agree with you. Vista is not doing anything different, its only the Router it is rejecting the request of IPaddress. We don;t know the implementation of dhcpserver in the router, it is touch to guess exactly what the problem could be. if the machine has both the os XP & Vista ?

Hempyhill and Megatonone both had same issue and was easily resolved by setting up Static IP within Vista. No more dropped connections. I tend to agree with Kenfo's comments as to the router compatibility. However, I've installed Vista several times for various reasons (learning mostly) and I still don't understand why I experienced intermittent dropping of my internet connection until I setup a Static IP which completley solves the problem. For any others out there having this problem, I can tell you that in early March (right after Hempyhill's post for help on this issue), Hempyhill and I both set up Static IP's in Vista and no more problems. We did not turnoff any Vista features other than IPv6 which is of no use typical users at this time. If you're interested in setting up a Static IP in Vista just do a search and you'll find several helpful links. http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm Hope this is of help to others
