EventSystem warning, Event ID 4356
A few days ago, this started showing up in the Applications part of my Event Viewer whenever my laptop starts up: Event Type: Warning Event Source: EventSystem Event Category: (52) Event ID: 4356 Date: 12/22/2009 Time: 6:18:24 AM User: N/A Computer: [my computer name] Description: The COM+ Event System failed to create an instance of the subscriber partition:{41E90F3E-56C1-4633-81C3-6E8BAC8BDD70}!new:{58FC39EB-9DBD-4EA7-B7B4-9404CC6ACFAB}. CoGetObject returned HRESULT 8000401A. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. The Microsoft link has no information. This started Dec 18/09. The only thing I have done in the way of installing things just before this happened is that I completed the setup of IE8, but I'm not even sure what day I did that. Otherwise, it's just been updates of MSE and my Malwarebytes pro. Is this anything to be concerned about? I'm not noticing any problems with this system at all. Is there any way I can make this go away? It only shows up on startup. This is a Windows XP SP2 (Haven't installed SP3 yet due to concerns about compatibility with Intel wireless adapter, but I'll get to it in the not too distant future! Then I'll be back--on my other computer--asking for help when I can't get on the internet, LOL!) This laptop is part of a home network behind a router, and has a wireless connection to the internet. Any help would be appreciated. I'm considering a system restore, but as the days go by, I'm less and less inclined to want to roll my system back that many days. 1 person got this answerI do too

may want to check out the KB article here . Appears there's a hotfix for it. hth, v M.V.P. - Desktop Experience | M.C.S.A. | M.C.P. - MS Server 2k3, Network Architecture Thanks, Valis, but that hotfix doesn't seem to apply. The message on that page does not match what I'm seeing in my Event Viewer. From what I could find, it looks like my particular issue might be related to the Dr. Watson debugger. As seen here: http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=4356&eventno=1035&source=EventSystem&phase=1 Quoted from that page: "58FC39EB-9DBD-4EA7-B7B4-9404CC6ACFAB = Dr. Watson (debugger)" Those numbers match what is in my event viewer message. However, I cannot find anything online as to whether or not I should be concerned about this or what I can do to make this stop appearing. If it is related to Windows Error Reporting, I deliberately engaged in an activity with a program that I knew would crash, and it looks like Microsoft error reporting is working just fine. Is there anything else you can suggest, or should I just ignore it? Everything on this system seems to be working OK, all that's lacking is an update to SP3. This only comes up when my system is booted up. No error messages.

try flushing your restore points. To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account. (Windows XP) 1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Check Turn off System Restore. Click Apply, and then click OK. 2. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*. Click Apply, and then click OK. Thank you.Well, I was worried about getting rid of ALL my restore points, so created a restore point and then used disk cleanup to clear out all but the most recent one. It didn't help, this item still shows up. Is it anything to be concerned about it, or is it safe to ignore it? I'm not noticing any problems with this system.

well, for one thing, by creating that restore point, you just created a restore point with the problem in it. If you had flushed them all, then turned the service back on, you could immediately create a restore point. Regardless, IMO, it doesn't seem to be anything serious, from what I've found. It seems to be primarily in the small business server side, so unless you are running that, I don't think that you will have any issues, other than the annoying warning. However, we can still dig deeper and see what we can find. I'll let you make the call. :) thanks, vM.V.P. - Desktop Experience | M.C.S.A. | M.C.P. - MS Server 2k3, Network Architecture

Sorry, I missed your response to this. I'm not running a small business server (don't even know what that is! LOL!), and the laptop doesn't seem to be experiencing any problems, so I think I'll leave it as is. Thanks so much for looking into this. :)

de nada. Couldn't pass it up, as amethyst is my birthstone, and I like purple. Except for the whole 'barney' thing. :)M.V.P. - Desktop Experience | M.C.S.A. | M.C.P. - MS Server 2k3, Network Architecture
