Essentials, Games etc.
I live in the country and do not have access to High Speed Internet yet. Cell phones do not work as we are in a valley and I guess we'll have to wait until someone builds a tower close by. I just bought and installed Windows 7 and it seems a lot of the programmes I want I have to download. Mail, Windows Live, Games, Photo Editor etc. It's about 200 MB. It would take me weeks without a telephone to download and install all these accessories. Is there a way I can download them at work onto a stick and bring them home to install. Is there a CD I can buy which will have all these accessories on them ?Thanks

if you are just after the Windows Live tools, you can try to grab the installer (MSI) packages from a PC where these are installed. The "cached" MSI on my system are located under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live\Cache (note that this folder is hidden). however i am not sure if you can install / configure these completely offline or with very low bandwith. The easiest way (if allowed), woudl be to bring your PC to work and connect it to the internet there. Hope this helpsalex

I agree, see if they will allow you to bring it to work one day (as it may take half a day to install all updates and add-on's). As long as it doesn't interfer with your normal duties, don't use port security on their switches (they could/might make an exception on a port), etc, or leave it there a few days so it can update on its on overnight (most updates). Alex's suggestion of your work place is probably the best route to go, just be up front and abide by whatever they say. They could cut you off if it appears you're too distracked from performing your normal duties (or get in good with IT helpdesk/network admin to do it for you during his down time). I have employees ask me all the time to take it home with me to update (we don't allow it at work).MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message.
