I am running Windows 7 Backup. I get the message "Backup did not complete" and "Backup skipped backing up X:\ as it is on the backup target". I am backing up to an external drive labeled X: The system appears to be saving an image of my drive but no files. This happens with either automatic backup or manual. It says the last backup was "never". I tried the steps suggested in Windows Help "How do I stop receiving notifications about files that are skipped by Windows Backup?" but it did not work. I unchecked everything but my Documents, Photos, Music. I unselected "additional locations" and "system image" but still no luck. Can anyone provide a fix that a dummy can understand and implement, please? I can not figure out if any of the technical comments posted here are relevent to my situation.

Hi Leonard K, Thanks for the post! The error message told you that “Backup skipped backing up X:\ as it is on the backup target”, did you select the X drive when you backup? Or are there any files in your Libraries their location is in X drive? Open your Backup and Restore, click Change settings, choose the backup destination, click Next, check “Let me choose” – Next. Do not select the X drive. Please note that, in you Libraries, like Documents, Photos, Music, their locations should not in your external X drive. Thanks. Error message continues even though X; is not selected to be backed up. Fortunately, other files are backed up okay.
