Error message -- Windows cannot change the password
I have Windows 7. There is only one account -- the administrator account. It has no password. I tried to add a password to the and got the following error message -- "Windows cannot change the password." I tried the methods described in the Answers.Microsoft.com forums: 1) control + alt + Delete; 2) "Computer Management > Local Users and Groups" doesn't appear; 3) Command prompt "net <user name> /Passwordchg:yes" None of these worked. Can you help?Stuart

Hi, I would like to verify the second situation: Computer Management > Local Users and Groups" doesn't appear. Do you mean Administrator doesn’t list in Local Users and Group? Please try to create another administrator account and set the password for it. But the Adminstrator does not list Local Users and Groups. To better understand this problem, the laptop was bought from a floor display at Best Buy. Is there a program that prevents me from changing the password, or do I have to add something to the system manually? I had to add a Public for the Users in ProfileList manually because it was missing in the regedit and prevented me from installing software.
