Error in making logical drive (partition) from free space
Ok so I deleted some partitions on my computer that were of no use to me and when I go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management, it tells me I have 115GB of free space, along with my current partitions and their sizes. When I right click on the free space, the following options show up:New Logical DriveDelete Partition (grayed-out)HelpSo I got to New Logical Drive, click next, then it says:Select the partition you want to create:Primary partition (grayed out)Extended partition (grayed out)Logical Drive (only selectable option)Then I go to next, choose the max amount of disk space, assign the default letter, and format this partition with the following settings:File system: NTFSAllocation unit size: defaultVolume Label: New VolumeNo to quick formatNo to enable file and folder compressionClick next and right when I click finish it says the following error:Logical Disk ManagerAn unexpected error has occured. Check the system event log for more information on the error. Close the disk management console, then restart disk management or restart the computer. So how do I create this logical drive? Basically what I want to do is create another partiton along with my other partitions, and I don't want to have to back anything up or have it delete any of my files.1 person needs an answerI do too

What is the current partition structure of the physical drive? On x86 hardware, there can be a maximum of 4 primary partitions on a physical hard drive. In Windows, one of those partitions can instead be an extended partition. The extended partition may be subdivided into logical drives. If you less than 3 primary partitions plus some unallocated space and right click on the unallocated space, the menu choices should be: New Partition Properties HelpThe fact that your menu options were: New Logical Drive Delete Partition (grayed-out) HelpSuggests that you are clicking in an unformatted but already partitioned Extended Partition. You should be able to tell by the color of the bar above the space. If the colors aren't easily distinguishable, you can change them within Disk Management from the View > Settings > Appearance dialog.I don't know why you're unable to create a new Logical Drive. What does Event Viewer say? (Start > Run > eventvwr > OK)
