Error creating system image
I did a clean install of windows 7 professional on a 500 gig drive. Machine is an older Dell XPS wiht 2 gig RAM. I ran all the windows 7 updates. Before adding any additional software, I tried to do a backup. WhenI back-up files, it works. If I try to create a system image, I get an error message.I reported this to microsoft technical support. No exageration... I have had6 different people try to fix this problem over the past 7 days. In total, they have had control of my computer for over 8 hours.The last word from Microsoft technical support is that this appears to be a bug in windows 7. Any ideas on how to fix this? I would prefer to stay with the windows 7 backup feature. This was one of the attractions to me for moving up to 7.The error message is:"A shadow copy could not be created. Please check "VSS" and "SPP" application event logs for more information. The specified object was not found. Error code: 0x81000019I have tried to backup for an external 1.5T seagate extreme drive as well as a 1T internal seagate drive.

Other than creating the image on the driveitself, you could also choose to create it on a CD. Care to share the step you go about it creating the image? So as to ensure you used the correct step

I too did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium. I followed the instructions per the Action Center to let Windows decide what to back up. I tried several times without success. I tried using both re-writeable and regular DVDs for the backup. I get the following message each time: "A shadow copy could not be created. Please check "VSS" and "SPP" application event logs for more information. The specified object was not found. Error code: 0x81000019."

Hi,Sorry for the inconvenience. Can you pass on the *.etl files from <SystemDrive>\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackup to sneham_at_microsoft_dot_com (Remove underscores and replace words with characters wherever applicable). This will help us investigate the issue.Thanks,Sneha[MSFT]

SNEHA, I just emailed you the *.etl files. For others reading this post, I set up a dual boot (both windows 7) so that I could rule out any software conflicts. The drive I am trying to backup with a full image only has windows 7 on it plus updates. Nothing else. We have tried to back up to DVD, external hard drive, and to an internal hard drive without success. In my just completed support session, we created another partition on the stripped down windows 7 boot disk and copied the hidden files into this partition. We ended up getting the same error. I have 3 internal drives (200 gig original, 500 gig seagate, 1T seagate) and 1.5 freeagent seagate extreme.
