Error Code 0x80070005 Access Denied
I am tring to access shared folders on my computer from another computer in the same LAN network (both have vista ultimate) and even with the firewalls off, UAC and password protected sharing off, it gives me the error code: "0x80070005 Access denied. There might be a problem with the spelling, or there could be a problem with your network." I can access my Public folder, and use access my Media, But when i share any folder, no other computer can access it (but it can still see it). I do have a password protected account on the 'host', but access is granted to everyone (btw: the other account is not password protected). I have searched online and could not find anything that helped. Is this a known issue, ordown to a select few? Is there anyway to go back to the XP networking?*Update* Ok, I notice that If i go through a different path (instead of trying to access the folder directly, If I go to: Public/User/Documents/Downloads it works, but if i try to use the Downloads folder directly on the network it gives me an error. Also, I tried accessing the files from the host computer through the network, and it blocks itself... what gives?

Hi, You may not configure the file sharing permission properly. The folder access permission is for the folder \\computername\C:\Public\User\Documents\Downloads. However, the folder path on network will be \\computername\Downloads if you share it. Please right-clicked the folder, click Sharing tab, click "Advanced Sharing", click "Permission" button. Make sure that Everyone is allowed to access the folder. If the issue persists, the root cause may be the anti-virus or firewall. I suggest that you temporary disable the security related programs, and then try check the result. Hope it helps.

I do have it set for everyone to access it in the advanced tab, I also not only disabled my firewall/anti-virus, I uninstalled norton, and the problem is still there.

Is there a time difference of more than 5 minutes between the pc's?

Hi, Please make sure that in "File Sharing" "Public Folder Sharing" are on in "Network and Sharing Center". If the issue reoccurs, temporary disable the anti-virus, and then check the result. If the issue persists, please create a new folder under C:\, or in other partitions. Then please let me know if the issue still occurs.

I have this same problem. I cannot access a shared file on a second Vista computer from another Vista computer in the network. I am able to access files on the first computer from the second. Both computers are set up the same, as far as I can see. I have tried disabling norton on both computers with same result. The time is the same on both computers

hey, hope this post doesnt come too late, ive had the same problem and sorted it. im using vista home basic on my computor, and the other computor was vista premium, n the menu tree was a little diffrent. i'll explain using vista basic, with the other version it just seems like theres a view extra steps.Go to my computor, right click the drive you want to access. click prperties, go to the security tab. click edit, click add,(this is where it gets diffrent for premium andi asume other versions, basic principle is keep click advanced though.) the click advanced. when the next window pops up theres a button on the right called find now, click that. in the window at the bottom scroll down untill you get to NETWORK. double click on that, the current window will close (this is where its slightly diffrent again, if your not using basic thell be a few more menus just click apply or ok untill you get back to the permisions window.) leaving you with the permisions window. tick the controll boxs you wish to and then click apply. close the windows and with any luck you should able to access the drive youve just set up.If youve got pertioned or multiple hard drives you'll have to repeat this for each one.

Thanks! This helped. In Vista Home Premium its under "Security" tab. I added "All" users to be able to access my folder and was successfully able to access that folder from another PC. Now I've got to figure out why I can't access my XP x64 machine from Vista - settings are completely different...
