Error 798 with PPTP-EAP VPN (Windows 7 x64)
Hello, My work has a PPTP-EAP VPN which uses smart card authentication to login. I can connect just fine with the smart card, but I'm trying to setup the VPN connection so it can read the certificate from the local certificate store, instead of me having to insert the smart card every time. I've placed the certificate from my smart card into the Personal certificate store, and I've edited the authentication properties of the PPTP VPN connection to "use a certificate on this computer". [BTW, in the Security tab under the Authentication section, "Use Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP)" is select, and in the drop-down list, "Microsoft: Smart Card or other certificate (encryption enabled)" is selected.] However, when I try to connect, I get the following error: Error 798: A certificate could not be found that can be used with this Extensible Authentication Protocol. What do I have to do so that Windows will know that the certificate I placed in my Personal store is to be used with the VPN connection? Thank you for any help. Regards, Jim

Thank you Kim, but I have already seen Heider's reply. Unfortunately it does not apply to my case. Would you have any other suggestions? Regards, Jim
