Error 734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated.

I have a new windows 8.1 laptop with an Intel Wireless N 7260 WiFi card. Attempting to connect to a corporate VPN. I have a windows 7 professional PC able to connect with little to no issue.   I have mirrored the settings between the windows 7 machine and on the windows 8.1 device I get the error; 734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated. I am not sure what I am missing here.

I have the RAS Logs when I duplicated the error.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve the error?

Hi

What's the system version of your VPN server?

This error means:

Multi-link negotiation is turned on for the single-link connection.

-or-

The dial-up connection security configuration is incorrectly configured to use the Require secured password setting.

Please try suggestions here to check the results:

If you use any VPN client, please make sure that the client is compatible well with Windows 8.1.

Kate,

Thank you for your reply.  First off, the VPN server is a ClearOS Gateway.  This should not have any bearing on the situation as I do have (not only my other device but,) several other Windows devices able to connect to it without issue.

I have attempted to toggle Multi-Link Negotiation and it results in the same error.  I want to say that I have tried every permutation of password security, and had operated under the assumption that copied settings from a computer running Windows 7 Pro would produce positive results.  If I had another windows 8 / 8.1 Device I would attempt to connect with it to check to see if it is working.

Is there some log that may give me more information on the error, for instance the step that fails and why?

Any progress on this?

I can replicate on two different Windows 8.1 machines, though two different home networks - I cannot get them to connect without this 743 Error?

Hello,
In my case the problem seemed to be a deferent security settings.
I compared the setting to a Windows 7 machine the it's VPN connection is working fine.
After several failures I have found that the setting are a bit deferent. I hope it helps solving this problem to you as well.
