Error 0x80096004

I was asked to place this question over here in TechNet so here it is:

I've scoured these forums to no avail concerning a problem I'm having regarding the Windows Store. When attempting to install any app from the Windows Store, I'll receive a 0x80096004 error message. I've followed all of the steps, from clearing the Store cache, ran all updates...all of it. In my gut, I honestly believe my particular problem is stemming from an Internet filter issue. We have a Bloxx Internet Filter deployed in our corporate environment and it aggressively filters out HTTPS sites. In fact, I had to locate the Windows Activation web address to add in to allow that function to occur.

Long story short: Can someone provide the actual site that the Windows Store is referencing when attempting to "purchase" apps (my problem is occuring on a free app, such as Twitter)? If I can add that to our filter, I believe my problem will go away. This of course is assuming that there is an HTTPS site that Microsoft uses to house such apps, something like https://apps.windowsstore.com or something similar.

Thanks for any help provided.

ZH

I have seen that error message with multiple malware apps/firewalls.  Your question did get me curious and I ran a packet trace using Microsofts network monitor  (I would use something much more comprehensive if I was on a PC) and it appears it is not a single site.  There appears to be almost 1000 packets distributed over more than a dozen sites.  It isnt apps.windowsstore.com as that redirects to the windows app studio.

Might just be easier to contact Bloxx.

Hello ZacHastings,

What is your current situation?

If you are in a corporate environment, you could sideload windows store apps in Windows 8.
