Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect on Copy Paste
Hi, When trying to copy a file off a networked drive I get the following error: Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect. This is the second time this has occurred. The first time I was trying to copy 4 files and 3 of them were copied correctly and the other was not. The solution then was to add it to a zip archive and then copy that. This time, adding it to an archive does not work. This is not a file path issue, other files with longer source and destination paths copy fine. Any idea what is going on? Cheers, Jason

Hi, Before going any further, I would like to verify these siturations: 1 Does this issue occur with other type of file? 2 Does this issue occur when copy from USB drive? Parameter is incorrect is an idiopathic symptom (it could be a network connection problem, a file with unrecognizable attributes, a corrupted file, or any number of other causes). That is the error that windows reports and it doesn't tend to be very helpful in diagnosing the actual problem. For your case, please try to reinstall WinRAR, and logon with Clean Boot to see if the same issue occurs. 1. Yes but both were archives, one was zip (and mdf which is renamed zip) and another was a rar. 2. I tried that but Windows failed to install the driver for my USB. I forgot to mention the target machine was hosted in VirtualBox. If it was a network issue surely the other 3 files wouldn't have copied, and zipping up the 4th wouldn't have made any difference either. How could it be a file with unrecognized attributes when it is already on a Windows 7 machine? File was not corrupt either because the first time this happened I could zip it up and then copy that and extract it on the target machine and it was without errors. How the heck would reinstalling WinRaR work? That's just the application associated to that particular extension, it's not even running when this error occurs. Well I could try Clean Boot next time this happens...

I don't know if you found a fix - I had a similar problem. Copying files in or out of my virtual box gave that error. I tried re-installing guest additions, and it seems to have resolved my issue. Thought I'd share that - may be worth a try for somebody else...

I am having a similar problem. I'm trying to copy a .DAT file from a VCD to my hard drive. This particular file is between 600 and 650 MB. When trying to copy the file, I get the following error message: cannot copy AVSEQ01:the parameter is incorrect There are two other .DAT files on the CD that I am able to copy over, the largest of which is only 13 MB. I am running an up-to-date Win XP SP3. The drives I'm copying to are NTFS. The last time I had a similar error I was copying MP3 files from DVDs to my hard drive. I finally wound up borrowing my sister's Mac and copying the files to an external hard drive. I'd prefer not to have to do that. Help. Thanks.

This seems to be a limitation of the OS in handling the length of the pathname. I faced similar issue while moving a file to a nested folder structure inside "my documents" folder. I could copy the same to any other location with a shorter pathname. The limit seems to be around 256 characters.
