Erratic Behavior in my WiFi
I'm finding some weird behavior going on in my WLAN since installing Windows 7. First, here's my setup:-- LinkSys Wireless-G Router, model WRT54G, firmware v8.00.2-- Windows XP Pro custom-built tower system (my primary PC) connected by Ethernet-- IBM ThinkCentre desktop, dual-boots Windows XP Pro and Windows 7, uses TRENDnet USB WiFi adapter, model TEW-424UB to connect to the router.Everything below refers to the dual-booting IBM system with Win 7... The wired XP system is unaffected:Before installing Windows 7, everything worked fine. If I power on and only boot into Windows XP now, everything's fine. If I power on the system to Windows 7, again, everything's fine. If I power on the system to Windows 7, and then reboot to XP, OR if I power on to XP, and then reboot to 7, all just hunky-dory. The problem arises only if I'm in Win 7 and REboot to 7. Then, SOMETIMES (not always) the system can't find the router, and it says I have no connectivity. Now, here's the weird part -- If this happens and I can't connect to the WLAN, if I then reboot into XP, it won't be able to connect to the router either! -- It goes into this apparently infinite loop where the WLAN icon on the Notification Area disappears and reappears as the WiFi tries unsuccessfully to contact to router. No matter how many times I then warm or cold boot, either into XP or 7, the WiFi will not connect under either OS, no way, no how -- The only thing that will clear it up is to press <RESET> on the router! Then things return to normal.. Until I reboot from 7 back into 7, which is the only thing that causes the problem to arise. It's as if, on these reboots, Windows 7 keeps sending some insulting message to my router, which makes it petulant, and refuse to speak to the WiFi again, until I pacify the router by pressing <RESET>.I'm very puzzled at what's going on -- I'm not even sure if it's really a Windows 7 issue, but since it's only happened since I installed it, I thought I would post here about it and see what others thought...Dave WRT54G WRT54GWRT54G

It is most likely a wifi driver compatibility problem. Contact the maker of the device.Rating posts helps other users Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP
