Enterprise Voice with only internal Extensions

Hi,

We are currently trialing the Polycom CX600 Lync 2010 Phone Edition phones.

Is there a way, I can setup our current Lync 2010 infrastructure to just use internal extensions so I can test the phones? Im aware I need to setup the DHCP scope to allow the phone to discover Lync.

Enterprise Voice is not enabled as yet but can enable this if required.

Thanks in advance.

The short answer is yes. Make sure that you populate the LineURI correctly in Lync Server 201x Control Panel or via PowerShell.

Thanks for the prompt response.

Can I make any old number up before the extension then, providing my normalization rules are setup correctly.

Im assuming enterprise voice needs to be enabled? Strange thing is, its not enabled in Lync but I have the option to enable it on my user account. When I do this, my Lync client gets the Enterprise Voice dial pad.

With a valid unique LineURI per Lync user and Enterprise Voice enabled, EV features (such as the dial pad) will be lighted up.

Cool.

I was just a little confused as to how I got the dial pad and have the Enterprise Voice option in the control panel but dont have Enterprise Voice enabled.

I have never seen this but, I'll assume that without EV configured in topology, it's not going to work even if you configure voice routing components within CSCP. Enable EV on the topology first. And for Phones, you only need DHCP for IP and if you're plan to use USB connection, then DHCP Options are not mandatory as the device will pull the authentication and certificate from the Lync client. OPTION's been used if the USB connection's not available or for instances like common area devices such as meeting rooms.

Hi MessageUndeliverable,

The Lync dial pad is always available in the Lync main window. You might not have a Lync dial pad if you are using the standard Lync 2010 installation (or your support team has not enabled your account for enterprise voice).

I dont think you will get extension working without EV, however with USB tethering you should at least be able to log the phone in, and then you can use Lync to Lync calling.

If you are going the way of EV, then there is no harm enabling it in advance for your pilot.
