Enterprise Colleague Query
"I have an issue with Win 7. I have set my power settings to never go to sleep or turn off the monitor or anything yet it keeps locking itself every 10 minutes. I have even created a custom power profile but even this didn't help. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for it? The power plan is a custom one with all sleep, hibernation, and other power down options set to none. In addition, it is set to not ask for a password on wake. Regardless, it locks itself after 10 minutes and insists on a password. It's a Dell D-630 with 4 GBs RAM and and Intel Core Duo T7300 processor running at 2 GHz. The OS is RTM. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for it?"Please let me know whatever light you can shed on this & I will pass it on to my colleague.Thank you.Drew - MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres. Double check the power options page becouse sometimes when you exit the page it does not remember your settings.

Drew -Is there like a really good reason why you've posted this same exact issue for the 3rd time? I can understand it if the answers on the first post didn't solve the problem. And maybe even those of the 2nd round of posting, but dude, the only thing you're likely to get doing things this way is a LOT of repeat answers. Instead of moving forward and having people dig a bit deeper into their personal knowledgebase, you're not likely to get much else. To refresh everyone's memory and to save people the hassle of reading a bunch of redundant posts, thus far we've got:2 people suggesting to check the screensaver settings - but there isn't any screensaver set1 person suggesting to check to see if there's a low power state - and it apparently isn't in one.1 person suggesting to check group policies - no answer to this one yet. 1 person suggesting they try running in Safe Mode to see if it happens then as well - no answer to this one either. Ok... So here'sthe next rabbit out of my hat...Have him set a screen saver and set it for5 minutes (instead of the default which should be around 10 mins, IIRC)... Make sure that it's NOT set to "On Resume, Display Log On Screen". Have him save the theme and test. The screen saver should pop up5 minslater and when he moves the mouse or hits a key, it should resume normal operation right where he left off. After it's done, have him go back in and reset the screen saver to none and resave the theme - and test again.

Sorry, just getting to this... Simon dealt w/ this & an answer from here, somewhere :S,helped. It's a Group Policy thing & a loophole MS fixed in Win7... even if the setting is "None" 7 is smart & will override that. Anyway they are working out a solution that will serve thier needs. Thanks to all for the input & suggestions.& pls excuse, was important (to Simon) & seemed to fit in more than 1 topic-section so reckoned more ppl would notice & respond... anyway thanks from Simon, too. He appreciated the answers & from them came up w/ a remedy.Drew - MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres. Computer Issues

Computer Issues Hi DrewYou posted this same thread 4 separate times over a period of 2 days and atotal of8members here spent their valuable time responding and trying to help.Just a suggestion, as a Thank You to these members, you might want to post a description of which Group Policy setting was involved, what was the 'loophole' that was found andfixed, and what was the remedy that Simon came up with? This could also help others who may experience this same problem in the future. Thanks for understanding.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

Ronnie - In that case, I would recommend giving the answer to the person who suggested checking the GPO stuff out. Since the original posts are now deleted, I can't tell who it was but I think it may have been Curious Kat. I don't suppose those redundant posts could be merged into this one so we have the full thread instead of just having them go poof into the void... Could we?Furthermore... I don't see how my post got marked as an answer... It wasn't anywhere near the mark. I merely scolded Drew (mildly) for his repeat postings and did a head count on the solutions already suggested and tried. But I do agree - it would be great of Drew posted details so we can all learn something new...

Sorry Ronny for almost never post which group policy specifically should be change, thats because iuse the standard user account which the password is 128 bits long withascii caracters and the administrator as well plus if iwant to run the console managementi have to type username and password which is big and takes about 5 mins!!!!so thats why but next time before i answer any question about gpo i might look first which policy is involved then post ..Thanks for the warning!Kind regards,RR
