Endpoint protection on windows 10

Hi all,

we are having the first laptops rolled out with windows 10.

I now that default windows defender is installed. On all our other windows 7 or 8 machines we have configured system center endpoint protection (forefront) (with gpo for updating and rules and settings) We are working without the system center configuraton manager.

For windows 10 i cant install forefront endpoint protection (install failes) I was wondering if i can use the product still on windows 10 (maybe there is comming a new version) or  is defender the new version in stead of forefront. We are still paying for the license for forefront, but if the product wont run on windows 10 i maybe need to stop that.

Is defender enough for a standard domain, or do i have to replace it with maybe another 3th party tool?

Please advice what and how to use?

regards

Hi,

If you are running it standalone then Windows Defender and System Center Endpoint Protection basically is the same as they share malware enginge, definitions and so on. the differende between them has been in the past that you could manage System Center Endpoint Protection with Configuration Manager and get a central console for status reports and email notifications and more when a virus is detected.

Starting with Windows 10, Windows Defender is used instead and SCEP can no longer be installed.

So I would say yes, you will have the same protection as before with Windows Defender on Windows 10.

Justin provided a script as workaround here:
