Encountered issue upgrading Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

Hi,

I encountered an issue upgrading Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.

I tried updating to Windows 8.1 using the Windows Store.

A popup appeared indicated that Before you can get Windows 8.1 from the store, you
need to install the latest updates from Windows Update.
Go to Settings, tap Change PC Settings, tap Windows Update, tap check for updates now, and then install any available updates

I went into Window Update, checked and installed the latest updates, restart the PC and
went back to Windows Store for Windows 8.1. However the above mentioned popup
still appeared.

I repeated Window Update check for few times (there is no more updates at this point) but i still
see the above popup appeared whenever I go into the Windows Store.

It seems that I can't perform the update through the Windows Store.

Can someone help me on this?

Thanks a lot!

Best Regards,

Lina

Go to your PC manufactured site and find all the updates there

Please also check document related to update Windows 8.1 at their manufactured site, some model still not ready to upgrade due to Windows 8.1 driver availability

Lina,

In addition to the suggestions already offered, double check and make sure you don't have any failed updates.  If you do, you'll need to clear your Windows Update cache and try installing the updates again.

To do this, run the following commands from an elevated command prompt:

net stop wuauserv
ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.OLD
net start wuauserv
exit

Now check again for updates and reattempt to installed any failed updates.

Hi,

Would you please check the updated history to see if there is any failed updates?

Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\View update history

If so, please try to reset Windows update components and check updates again:

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Please help to upload windowsupdate.log under %windir% here for our research. Onedrive can be used to upload file and share the link

Hi Mike and Kate,

I just noticed your replies. I have run the Windows upgrade Assistant for Windows 8.1

The compatibility report shows a screen saying 4 out of your apps and devices are compatible

  1. Keyboard
  2. Broadcom Gigabit Controller
  3. Mouse
  4. Audio Device

It never show compatibility for other PC hardware such as RAM and so on. After clicking next, it re-directs me to upgrade Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store again.

I will try your suggestions to clear the Windows Update cache/reset Windows update components and try installing the updates again.

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Lina
