Enclosure Awareness feature in Windows2012 R2

Hello,

I could know that Enclosure Awareness feature has the following requirements with respect to Mirror Spaces

  • To tolerate 1 failed enclosure with 2-way mirrors, 3 enclosures are required
  • To tolerate 2 failed enclosures with 3-way mirrors, 5 enclosures are required

Can somebody help me understand why there is a requirement of 3 & 5 enclosures respectively for 2-way & 3-way mirror spaces? And the below given link mentions that 3-way mirror can withstand "1 enclosure + 1 disk*" when there are 3 or 4 enclosures. I am kind of confused !!!

Few more questions

  • Does single parity space support enclosure awareness feature?
  • How does this feature works for parity spaces?

Is there any blog/article which has some more technical details about this feature?
