Enabling copy-paste to an elevated cmd?
I seem not to be able to copy from a normal window (e.g. internet explorer) to an elevated CMD window. This annoys me. I would still like to have UAC enabled. How can I workaround this? It works fine in Windows 7

Hi...well its possible to copy any text from the internet explorer or other word documents into the command prompt...but the catch is...you cannot do it with the keyboard shortcuts...because the shell thinks you are trying to enter an escape character....try the steps below and it should work...1. COPY ANY TEXT FROM AN BROWSER PAGE OR ANY WORD DOCUMENT PROGRAM YOU WISH TO.2.OPEN ELEVATED COMMAND PROMPT.3.THEN RIGHT-CLICK "IN" THE COMMAND PROMPT WINDOWS AND THEN SELECT "PASTE" FROM THE POP-DOWN MENU...this should work...you dont have to disable the UAC for this....if you have any further queries please feel free to post it here...Regards, KOWSHAL H.M. a.k.a W@R10CK

oh am sorry...It sounds lie Quick Edit for the console window has been turned OFF (whichis actually the default setting).Open command prompt.Click the upper left hand icon to get the System menu for the Command Promptwindow.Choose DefaultsChoose Options tabUnder Edit Modes, select "Quick Edit Mode"Make sure Insert mode is also selectedHit OKWithout this turned on, to paste text you need to to the Edit option in tehmenu, and choose Paste ... to paste text. With this setting turned on, youcan paste as you would for any other Window. If you have Quick Edit enabled, and you still can't paste text, then ...that's unusual.please check this and then post back...i would be waiting for your post...Regards, KOWSHAL H.M. a.k.a W@R10CK

what? this is not about the edit mode. it's about the ability to copy from a normal window to an elevated cmd window. I can copy between two elevated windows. I found a workaround though: Find the text you want to copy. Paste it into a normal cmd-window. Reselect the text in the normal cmd-window and paste it into the elevated cmd-window. The above workaround works fine. However I'm not sure how this is possible when it's not possible to copy from a normal notepad-window and then paste into an elevated cmd-window. Seem like this might be a bug in Vista SP2?

An easy way to paste from any text doc to an elevated cmd window. Copy the text you want to clipboard, go to your elevated cmd window and click the fore mentioned icon in the upper left corner. Chose edit, check if your cursor is where you want it, and paste. This works with or without QuickEdit set to default.
