Enabling Bitlocker
I am trying to turn on the the Bitlocker feature in Vista. I have TPM enabled in the BIOS. I click on "turn on Bitlocker" and it proceeds with initializing the TPM. Once the TPM is initialized, it prompts me to select an option for saving the encryption password. I select USB drive and it save the password to on my USB drive. It then prompts to start encryption with a check box optionto Run BitLocker System Check.I check the box to confirm and click Continue. It prompts me to restart the computer and I click OK. When the computer boots back up, VIsta displays the error: "The Bitlocker encryption key could not be obtained from the TPM". Has anyone encounterd this problem and if so can you tell me how to get around it? Thank you, - Kam

Hi Kam, You don't mention what machine you have but, depending on what model it is, it sounds like the BIOS may notbe fullycompliant with BitLocker and Windows Vista yet. You should check with the manufacturer's website and see if there is an updated BIOS. It is also possible thatthe specific USB port on the machine you are plugged into isn't recognized at boot time (for this you could move the USB dongle to another port and try again.). Some BIOSes don't fully enumerate throughall of the USB hubs at boot time and thus some ports (on a different hub..say on the side versus back of the machine) may work when others do not. Tim

Hello, run cmd and type gpedit.msc inComputerconfiguration -> Administrative -> Windows-Components -> Bitlocker you must enable Control Panel Setup: Enable advanced startup options and then you can store your key on usb device without tpm Andre
