Enabled ReadyBoost causes random system hangs
Enabling ReadyBoost on 4Gb (FAT32) or 16Gb (NTFS and exFAT) USB flash (Corsair Voyager) leads to random unexpected complete system (x64 Q9550 with 8Gb RAM) hangs so then it needs to be hard reseted. I did not find any activity routines that leads to such behavior: there is neither any error related records in system/application events logs nor similar records that preceeds a hang. As for 16Gb flash, it had been using for ReadyBost for about 2 weeks with about 4 hangs (1 at the start of the period and rest -- often -- at the end). With 4Gb flash system stopped responding at the first day of using it as ReadyBoost. So then I wonder if there could be any reasonable cause for setting a USB flash for ReadyBoost may hang a system? Thanks for any ideas!

How about disabling ready boost to monitor your computer, if it still hangs after that, then I guess is more then ready boost that is causing the issue. Besides, you should use ready boost if you have only 2 GB of ram or maybe less. Is there any speed improvement from before and after enabling ready boost (in between PC hangs)? In addition you should try a system restore, to restore your computer to the time prior to enabling ready boost. That way you would avoid transferring the computer hangs, if you just disable it. If somehow the process of enabling ready boost, triggered something else to cause the PC to start hanging. I think is time for you to burn your recovery DVDs just in case this might get aggravated over time. I have 8 gb or ram, never tried ready boost on my win 7. Thanks for the reply! Fortunately I found the cause of that hangs as BIOS firmware I'd upgraded before. Since I did it the same time I'd started using ReadyBoost that events interfered and I completely forgot about new BIOS. Now I rolled back to previous version and hope for no hangs anymore :-) Concerning ReadyBoost itself, I did some measurements and found it was in use a little (ie for browser's caches r/w), even with 8 gigs on-board. Anyway, it gives me a sense that everything runs more smooth (especially with first apps runs right after a boot). But I completely agree that 256 MB pen-drive would be more than enough in this case! :-)
