Enable Remote Desktop w/ GPO
Hi,I am having trouble finding the correct settings for a GPO that enables remote desktop in Windows 7. I have "Computer Configuration/administrative templates/Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Connections/allow users to connect remotely using Remote Desktop services" enabled. In my Windows XP Remote Desktop GPO I have the WIndows firewall service disabled but this does not work for Windows 7. I guess I need to have the firewall service enabled with the firewall off for the domain profile. Any help finding these settings or another way to achieve this goal would be appreciated.

Remote Desktop is disabled by default in Windows 7, if you want to enable it, you can refer to the following link: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/turn-on-remote-desktop-in-windows-vista/ If your want to modify the settings via the GPO, Here’s what you need to enable: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Network Connections > Windows Firewall > Domain Profile > Windows Firewall: Allow Inbound Remote Desktop ExceptionEnable the option and you’ll be able to enable the Remote Desktop. Good luck!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------John

Hi, Isn't there a piece for allowing certain users access as well. Basically, I mean users that are not already in the local Administrators group. This bit is important for VDI or TS solutions when it is going to be more than administrators logging in. Anybody have the last piece figured out how to add non-admins to RDP? Thanks, Andy P@ndyP

Hello, You will have to use the computer management snap-in. Add the domain security group or user accounts to the local Remote Desktop Users group. You can do this at the local machine(s) as well. Whichever is more efficient for you.
