Go to start. Type in cmd [enter]. In the command prompt type in ipconfig, if an ipv6 address is listed ipv6 is enabled. Your modem or router may not support ipv6. Matthew Arkin - Microsoft Partner

IPv6 needs to be enabled on all of the computers on the network that you wish to have as part of the homegroup. Do the same as Matthew suggested for all of the computers. You can also use the "Workgroup" configuration for a home network if you do not need the additional security features of Homegroup. I've done the ipconfig and can only see ip4, yet my networking centre says I have IP6 enabled. My other machine has no problems. Both bought at the same time! Both hewlett packards. Grateful for how I can get this sorted. Thanks

Hi puits,Having IPv6 enabled won't present any issues if you are not connecting to an IPv6 network. It will not appear if is not connected. Click star>type cmd>select cmd.exe>type ipconfig/all at the prompt. So, what is the problem you have encountered?

I'm running into the same problem trying to connect to an existing HomeGroup with my laptop. control panel > network and internet > network connections > local area connection properties > networking tab > client for microsoft networks qos packet scheduler file and printer sharing for microsoft networks reliable multicast protocol internet protocol version 6 (tcp/ipv6) internet protocol version 4 (tcp/ipv4) link-layer topology discovery mapper i/o driver link-layer topology discovery responder All check boxs are checked. The solution can also be found... here: Based on my research, I would like to explain that IPv6 was depended on by the RNRP service. To troubleshoot the issue, let's refer to the following steps. 1. Temporarily disable Firewall and third party antivirus program on the computer for a test. 2. Verify relevant services ========================= a. Click "Start", type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in Search Bar and press Enter. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. b. Right click the "Peer Networking Grouping" service and choose Properties. c. Please check if the service is started; if not, please click the Start button and see if it works. d. You may also choose Automatic next to Startup type. e. Click OK. f. Please repeat the above steps with another service: PNRP Machine Name Publication Service. 3. Modify IPv6 registry key to enable IPV6 ========================== a. Click Start, type regedit in Search Bar, and then click regedit in the Programs list. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue. b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters c. Check whether the "DisabledComponents" registry key exists. If so, let's move on the next steps. d. Double click the "DisabledComponents" registry key and modify the value to 0. (If the key doesn't exist, please create the key above and assign the value 0) e. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. Thanks to Novack and Tobuscus. After reading many threads and trying many bogus fixes(most of them from microsoft tech reps) this fix worked. I don't know how long it will work but I finally have some hope. Thanks again s76helidoc

In case anyone else has this issue. Mine was not resolved by enabling IPv6, I was trying to install at a DR site that was in a separate AD Site that did not have a writable GC, just an RODC. As soon as I made one of the DCs a writable Global Catalog the install went fine.
