Enable Bitlocker without TPM
Does anyone know how to enable Bitlocker without TPM for Windows 7? I had done this for Vista and instructions are here: http://www.vistaclues.com/enable-bitlocker-without-a-tpm/. But the option Control Panel Setup: Enable Advanced Startup Options does not appear to be available under the Local Group Policy Editor. Thanks!

Oh, just found my own answer - go to the Local Group Policy Editor and choose the "Require additional authentication at startup" setting under the Local Group Policy Editor: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Operating Ssytem Drives.Within that template, enable it and then you can click on the checkbox to Allow BitLocker Without A Compatible TPM.HTH!

Hello Denny,I've been trying to encrypt my OS hard drive without a TPM. However, everytime I try to save the key in the USB device, I get an error window with some text saying "device in A:" not available.Have you been able to use Bitlocker with an USB device?Regards W7 Beta running on an AMD Semprom 3200+ (1800Mhz) with 2 Gbs of RAM and a built-in Nvidia 6100 VGA, and mate, it runs like a charm!

Fortunately I have been able to do this following the instructions I had provided above. Saying this, I take it thatyou have no problem accessing the USB drivefrom the file system? I haven't received the "device in A:" not available personally buta potential workaround to that is to save it locally first and then copy the files over to the USB drive. Word of warning - you will want to verify that your box can access the USB drive otherwise upon boot up you will not be to log in unless you type in the entire recovery key manually.
