Enable Background Sync GPO setting for win7 - sync variance setting
This is from the GPO help for Configure Background SyncYou can override the default sync interval and variance by setting 'Sync Interval' and 'Sync Variance' values. You can also set a period of time where background sync is disabled by setting 'Blockout Start Time' and 'Blockout Duration'. To ensure that all the network folders on the machine are synchronized with the server on a regular basis, you may also set the 'Maximum Allowed Time Without A Sync'.My question: what is sync variance? I assume that sync interval is the interval of syncing (every 5 min, 10 min, etc) what is sync variance? I can't find any deployment guidelines outlining GPO win7 deployment dealing with offline files and the new features touted by MS in win7 like transparent caching and background sync.-SpencerSpencer Williams

As the name implies sync variance is the amount of time that background sync can start the synchronisation with, ie if you set the Sync Interval to 360 minutes and the Sync Variance to 60 Minutes, then the variance allows the background sync to start somewhere between 360 & 420 minutes. Rob
