Enable Autorun for non-optical devices
I wish to re-enable the autorun feature for non-optical devices on my computer, or at least for devices containing mixed content. I have search through these forums and Google searches for a couple hours and have seen and read all about how to disable autorun and why it has been disabled. I recognize the problems it has caused people, but I wish to have this feature if at all possible. I'm running the Windows 7 RC Build 7100 with current updates.

Autoplay for Mixed content only has these options: open folder, no action, and ask. I'm actually asking about the AutoRun feature that uses the "autorun.inf" stored in the root of the drive being connected to run a file on the drive. I have the autorun.inf set to run my portable start menu. It works in XP but autorun has been disable for non-optical drives in Windows 7. autorun.inf:::::: [autorun] OPEN=start.exe ICON=icon.ico ACTION=USB-Menu Here's an image of what I get when I plug it in. The "USB-Menu" option described in my autorun.inf is not being displayed because autorun is disabled and is not an option for mixed content drives that are not optical.

Hay, As far as I know the actual 'Action' command has been completely dropped in windows 7, I too am looking for a way to enable auto run so I automatically backup my USB drive when inserted. <insert sad face> anyone got a clue how to bypass this or an alterative 'autorun' kinda thing?
