Editing Host file
Windows 7 Ultimate Run As Administrator notepadthere are 12 host files one is a TXT file and one is not I open the one that is not a TXT file (have to change file type to ALL FILES) I do my editing then I close the file and of course it says "save ?" I say OK and it opens a save as window....I see it has TXT selected as the file type and I change that to ALL FILES and then it says "HOST.TXT arleady exists do you want to replace it" ??? so essentially there are 2 hosts files and the one that is not a TXT file ( which I think iot the "real" one that I will need to edit from time to time) even using RUNS AS ADMINISTRATOR I can'nt save it in any other format except as txt file.... I alo have Spybot running and it has added so many entries that this real hostfile is now 310K I know that is is an old trick to point all these domane names back to 127.0.0.1 but isnt this bloated file sure to cause the compute rto bog down ? ....and ho come spybaot can add to this file ....but I seem to not be able to ...I am an administrator on this PC

Run a CMD as Administrator and browse to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc . Try to just run by typing "notepad hosts" . That way you know it's the right file.Website: www.danielclasson.com | LinkedIn: Daniel Classon

if you delete the hosts.txt and then just edit the file hosts. If it saves again as hosts.txt try to rename it deleting the file extension. It worked for me and I didn't have the problem anymore
