Edit a text file
How do you edit a text file on Windows 7. If I right click there is no run as Administrator option. How in the world do you do anything on this OS?

I know it is annoying. I usually want to modify an INI every once in a while which is located under C:\program files\... and Win7 won't let me. What I end up doing is to first perform a 'save as' to desktop, and then copy the file from desktop over to the original file. Win7 will then tell me I need admin rights to overwrite the file and I click continue to perform the overwrite. There are some workarounds I believe and a registry hack to add 'take ownership' to right click menu.

Can't I just make Notepad run as administrator all the time. I heard you can do this but the option is greyed out.

Hi,By default, the "Run as Administrator" option is not available when right clicking a text file or a shortcut file. If you have enough permission, you can double click the text file to eidt it directly. Regarding the "Notepad.exe" file, it is an executable program and it's different with the text file.
