Edge server WWW service

Hi All,

The Lync 2010 Edge server has www service running, not iis but just www service. Is this service required? What are the implications of disabling this service.

As per hardening the Edge server we found that it the hacker can know the edge server has MS WWW service running with version 7.5.

If you are referring to Internet Information Services, that should not be installed on an Edge Server.   The Edge server does not handle any HTTP/HTTPS requests, those all must be directed to a reverse proxy pointing to the internal Front Edge (and Director, if applicable) servers.

Hi Channavera,

Please check if you have add the role of IIS in the Server Manager.

If IIS has added, the WWW service can be seen on Edge server.

Whats more, just like Jeff said, IIS cannot install on Edge server. If you do it, Edge server may not start.

Best Regards,
