Can you make sure the Protected Storage service is running, and try again? (Check the Services management console in Computer Management.)

Can you make sure the Protected Storage service is running, and try again? (Check the Services management console in Computer Management.) I certainly hope you can find an answer to this as I was at a complete loss. The information I obtained was that this particular error code was exclusive to the following; Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server Sometimes deciding which battle to fight is the toughest battle of all….. sorry...I didn't mean to do that "proposed as answer" remark.

I encountered exactly the same problem running winXP2-SP3 Task-Planner. Check the systems register with "regedit" using the search option (I found none). Then COPY (save to a folder, just in case) and REMOVE all files from the ALLusers\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\rsa\S-1-5-18 folder, then restart your computer. The service "protected storage" is a vital part of a running winXP system and can NOT be stopped! It's not supported by "system restore" and will bring down your PC and restart!Anyway, it worked for me, causing Taskplanner to run normally again! ----> GOOD LUCK! PS. I am referring of course to the original MS-error-solution.
