EASY way of setting up printer from XP machine?
I have been endlessly trying to get everything working on Vista... and one main problem still frustrates me, i cannot print my stuff wirelessly through my network! the computer with the printer is XP pro and the laptop is on Vista ultimate - - it gives me an internal anger that makes me want to take my new 2000$ laptop and smash it on my wall and jump in joy in its rubble swearing insanities at microsoft - - back to something more constructive, i have found threads asking this exact question, yet i have found NONE that explain something simple!!!! THIS IS A SIMPLE TASK THAT SHOULD BE SIMPLE!! WHY PUT SO MUCH PROTECTION, Jesus!!! i have read your site explaining the differences in between the two, i have done most of them - making sure i have the same network name- making sure its a private netork in the settings - enabling all the ON's - installing that Network thing on XP that makes it mappable by XP - all firewalls are down in the porpuse of trying to make it work STILL NO PRINTER!!! i mean how the hell is a basic user suppose to figure this out! I'm intermediate-advanced and i cant even figure it out!!!! And dont tell me to trigger ports. i have DHCPand i have never succeeded in opening ports is there a simple way? OR a third party program? i mean, come on microsoft, sometimes i wished you guys would sit down and have a good talk with Apple about having the consumer in mind when creating systems! I am not really expecting a solution from you guys, youll probably refer me to one of those super complicated procedures which i have to study 2 hours before understanding i was probably looking at the wrong page. and when i mean 2 hours, its an understatement but in any case, i cant get an awnser without asking!!! hopefully this will render an awnser, but im not counting on it...

Hi, First, I would like to confirm if the shared printer has been installed on the Windows Vista laptop. If it has not been installed, refer to the following steps: 1. Share the printer on Windows XP:Share Your Printer Over a Home Network Using Windows XPhttp://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/honeycutt_july2.mspxHow to Use Windows XP to Share a Printer with Others on Your Networkhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457001.aspx 2. Access the shared printer on Windows Vista:Refer to the To print using a shared printer section in the following websitehttp://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/e3faee7d-a7cd-40aa-b240-006dca11dc451033.mspx 3. Try to print your stuff on the Windows Vista laptop and check the result. If you have installed the printer on the Windows Vista laptop, but cannot print, or if there is any error prompted when performing the above steps, please let me know the exact wording of the error message and the model of the printer. In addition, you can refer to the following article to troubleshoot the issue: Find and install printer drivers http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/304afc4c-6d8f-4de3-9063-558f23e2c6441033.mspx#EV You cannot print to a shared printer after you install Windows Live OneCare http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943765 Hope it helps.
