To use smart cards or certificates, you should specify the EAP-TLS as an authentication method. Dear sir, first of all thanks alot for your help and attention, may be it was my mistake i did bot provide enough information, i have a vpn connection, i want to be authenticated against a microsoft IAS (internet authentication service) which i am sure you are aware is microsoft implemetation of RASIUS, the remote access policy that will authnticate me, have in its EAP types:smart card or other certiticate, so i guess and wht i have always been doing is, at the vpn connection, in the security tab, i choose the EAP radi button, and then from the drop menu i choose smart card or other certiticate which is the same EAP type allowed ny the authentication authiroty, the IAS, but at my new machine, the only option listed in the drop menu are as follow: Cisco EAP-FAST (encryption enabled) Cisco LEAP (encryption enabled) Cisco PEAP (encryption enabled) Intel EAP-AKA (encryption enabled) Intel EAP-SIM (encryption enabled) Intel EAP-TTLS (encryption enabled) Microsoft Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) (encryption enabled) In all versions of windows i have seen other options such as microsoft:smart card or other certificate but i have only the options mentioned above, my question is: where are the missing options?

Which operating system are you using on your IAS server? I want to know it because I would like to install a IAS server and check the available authentication types. Best regards.

Sometimes options in a Microsoft Windows operating system are modified by your computer provider. I faced some of these problems using an operating system implemented on my laptops. Try to get an other CD of Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition operating system and install it on Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and check the option you want is available on the virtual machine. If it is OK, re-install your current OS with the use of the new CD and don't forget to download all your laptop Windows 7 drivers. There is no solution for your problem other than that. You can try sfc/scannow to repair the operation system. If it does not work, I suggest you run In-place Upgrade with your Windows 7 installation program. Generally you will not lose personal data and programs. However I still suggest you backup important data before repairing. Perform a backup and don't be hesitated. If your backup is done with no faults, don't worry about documents and installed softwares. Best regards.

I've been searching for an answer to this same question. I can't connect up to 802.1x or WPA-enterprise (v1 or v2) networks. Migrated to a new Dell PC with a Broadcom wireless 1520 card, from win7 ultimate x64 to same platform. Used easy transfer wizard to copy files and settings (think this is what broke it). On new laptop, I have three Cisco EAP providers and one Dell EAP provider but my Microsoft EAP and Smart Card options are gone. I don't want to do a reinstall, there must be a way to install the default Microsoft EAP providers. Also, if I try to create a new wireless network using 802.1x or enterprise wpa, I received an unexpected error and the wizard crashes. My guess is that it's looking for the default EAP providers and bombing out when they aren't found. I looked in my even log and found eap errors 2002 which looked like a "path not found" error.
