Dynamic Domain
I'm trying to determine a way to implent using a Dynamic Domain provide for my Windows 7 laptop. I can implement through my router @ home but when traveling would like it used also. Example, I'd like to use OPENDNS.com as my constant dns provider all the time. When I goto a local coffee shop and using their connection, I'll use opendns. Mainly I am doing this for the keyword shortcuts and managing security of my children's website visits, etc. Thanks for any information.Charlie Hawkins

You can set your DNS client options as static entries on your network interface, IPv4 properties. The static setting will override DNS settings configured by a DHCP server. However, this does not guarantee that you will be able to communicate wit the openDNS servers as you would expect. It is possible, that while you are connected to one of these networks, the packets sent from your computer are being re-routed based on destination port. This is a common practice as you may have experienced when you connect to these networks and are prompted or redirected to a website for you to pay or agree to their terms. Just as they do this with HTTP traffic, it can be easily done with any other IP traffic. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Yeah, it works perfectly as just a dns resolution for my machine, but cannot use it for tracking/using the information for my particular account.Charlie Hawkins

Not sure what you mean by " but cannot use it for tracking/using the information for my particular account". I probably just did not understand your original posting concerning the term "dynamic domain". I am not familiar with that term/phrase. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Basically, I can use my account at opendns.com. Using this, I can login to opendns and view all traffic from my home router. I can see how many visits were made to facebook, any specific domain, number of visits, block domains, keyword/re-direct domains, etc. I also use it to track advertising/phishing sites. Check it out. I was just hoping to find some way to put this capability on the specific netbook that is used on other wireless networks, not only my home router.Charlie Hawkins

I've figured it out. An application by OpenDNS has to be installed. http://www.top-windows-tutorials.com/configure-opendns.htmlCharlie Hawkins
