During a deployment from wds i get the following error with windows 8.1 "windows installation cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed"

When doing shift+f10 i can check the NIC is working well (i did get a ip-adress from the dhcp-server).

Hi,

Regarding current situation, I suggest we turn on the client logging functionality, run the following command on the WDS server:

WDSUTIL /Set-Server /WDSClientLogging /Enabled:Yes

Then, you can find setup logs from the client computer by referring to following article, and see which driver failed to install.

How to enable logging in Windows Deployment Services (WDS) in Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and in Windows Server 2012

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936625/en-us

Then, we can try to integrate this driver in the captured image and try to deploy again.

Hi,

I suggest we doing shift+f10, and type diskpart and lisk disk to see whether all HDD work as expected.

If not, please check the driver for Storage.

In addition, would you please let me know where did this image file come from, you captured yourself or got from installation disc.

Keep post.

Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? We have new Dell OptiPlex 3020's and we're getting the following error when applying Windows 8.1 (using a Windows 8.1 boot.wim). We're able to apply Windows 7 to these machines with no issues (using a Windows 7 boot.wim).

The following WDS Client has encountered Fatal Error:

SessionGuid: {8ef2838e-587c-48e1-96eb-ea79d5491cca}

MAC: 00-50-56-8F-5B-41

IP: 10.1.31.199

ClientDeviceID: {A4AF0F42-B02A-637E-41B8-B27EB4620DC9}

ClientArchitecture: x64

ErrorMessage: Windows installation cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed.

I'm having the same issue, also with OptiPlex 3020s. I am trying to deploy a vanilla Windows 8.1 install WIM, along with Dell's 3020 driver CAB.

Hello, im getting the error when trying to deploy a clean 8.1 image to a hyper-v vm ( both gen 1 and 2 ) Using the 8.1 boot.wim found in the ISO. The iso is from dreamspark. I did the diskpart but the disk is seen just fine. What else could it be?
