Duplicate user icons in Welcome Screen after SP1 update which reported failed
Issue #1:
I came into work this morning and found my pc had rebooted and had a popup that Win 7 SP1 had failed. Apparently this kicked off on it's own. There were also other numerous issues so I rebooted the PC, when it came up, I had 2 icons for my user account
and 2 'Other User' icons. Not knowing if one over the other would make a difference, I clicked on the first one, entered my password and proceeded to login. I noticed that it was building a new desktop/profile for me, but wasn't sure why.
It seemed to come up ok, so I rebooted again, this time using the 2nd icon for me and logged in again, which seemed like a normal startup/login. (Windows 7 Pro 64, domain account login).
So what caused this and how do I fix it (there are no security devices ie: fingerprint etc)?
Issue #2:
Right clicking 'Computer', Properties displays that SP1 is installed, yet I found about 25 patches or updates that if failed on. I did the default submit to MS for a solution which found none. Now I can't find that list of items that failed anywhere.
I still can't tell if the SP1 was completely installed correctly or not, I'm not sure what should be my next step here.
Even though I'm in IT, my rights/permissions are limited and the pc helpdesk is blowing it off as "seems to work, live with it and SP1 says it's installed." I tend to disagree along with my limited access to fix this. Unable to find the correct
solution via the search engines, so I could use some help here.
Thanks,
Mark
