Duplicate User Profiles
XP Media Centre Edition is producing duplicate user profiles of its own volition. All user My Documents folders have the sub folder headings, but no content. The Recorded TV folder has four TMP files each of between 1.7 and 7 Gb, but Media Centre says I have no Recorded Shows. Are thes files my lost documents? If so, how do I recover them? I have tried System Restore, New User creation to no avail. Am I approaching a new Mac at rapid speed?1 person needs an answerI do too

Your profiles are becoming corrupted and so Windows is making you new profiles. Profile corruption can occur because of malware infection, hardware failure, not shutting down properly, and other factors. You will need to set your computer to view all files and then look for your data. Then copy it safely to an external hard drive because you should be backing up regularly anyway. To see all hidden files:Control Panel>Folder Options>View taba. Check "Display the contents of system folders".b. Check "Show hidden files and folders".c. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".d. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and click "OK" to the dialog box.Once you have located your data, you should be proactive and:1. Scan for malware.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware2. Make sure the hardware is healthy, testing at least the hard drive and the RAM.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_TshootIf you wish to switch to a Mac that is of course your choice. However, Macs can experience hardware issues too. My MacBook Pro is in the shop right now.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
