Dual Boot Vista & Win7 RC
After adding Win7 RC to my Vista laptop, it is periodically running ScanDisk every couple of bootups (whether I boot to Vista or Win7).Recently installed Win7 RC on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A135-S4478). System has two HDDs with Vista factory installed to Disk 0. I created a partition on Disk 1 and installed Win7 RC there. After installing Win7, I did not get a Bootup choice to be able to select which OS to boot. I could choose by selecting boot in BIOS. Solved this by using EasyBCD to create the boot choices. Never had any HDD probs before adding Win7.

Kent Petersen, It looks like your Windows Vista install isn't happy with the partition structure of your disk after installing Windows 7. You said that your system has two entirely separate hard drives - is there anything else on Disk 1 other than Windows 7?-Alex

Alex,Disk 1 has two Primary partitions (each half of the drive). The first is used to store data from both OS's and the second is the Win7 install. Is there a way to insert a screen capture in these posts? Thanks,Kent

Kent, There is not, unfortunately, although you're welcome to upload an image elsewhere and link to it. The reason I asked about your partition structure is because Windows 7 creates a separate 100MB NTFS partition to be used for BitLocker drive encryption, whether or not you actually have this feature enabled. I'm not sure what sort of behavior would result from this not being located on the same drive as Windows 7.-Alex

Alex,Here's a link to screen captures of Disk Manager (from both Vista and from Win7). I don't see the 100 MB Bitlocker partition in either:http://www.windrocktechservices.com/kentwindows7.aspxDo you think Win7 didn't create it for some reason...is this related to having to manually create the BCD entry? Thanks,Kent

Kent, No, it's not related. I have to wonder if having any other NTFS partition on the drive larger than 100 MB would suffice for this, and I can't find much documentation - it'd help to get a developer in here.-Alex

Alex,What's it take to get a developer in on the thread? For the last couple of days I've been avoiding using sleep mode to see if that was maybe causing the problem. It hadn't happened (scandisk) but did again today...so it doesn't seem to be sleep mode.Kent

Not sure why but with both the Beta and the RC versions of Win7 (64bit), I have had to use EasyBCD to get it to boot to my Vista Home 32bit this is on a single hard driveon a desktop. but no issues with ScanDisk running.
