Dropped Connections in Vista Laptops
This is a problem I found on my friend's Laptop. And my new Laptop recently started having the exact same problem. And since I'm not seeing anythin about this anywhere else i figured I would through this out here and hope someone will know. The problem is that our Network just stops. It refuses to connect to anything...literaly.Whats even stranger is that Vista completely contradicts itself as to whether its connected or not. The task manager says It is not connected, the "connect to a network" screen says that it is "connected with limited access", and the Network Adapter setting says that there is a connection. There is no IP and the Router dose not show that there is a computer there. My other PCs are connecting just fine. The hardwire is working properly as this has been tested on a working PC just fine, and all the lights are operational. This is a very new laptop and the wireless is picking up other routers in the area including my own so i can asume that this is not a hardware issue. This same problem occurs at our school WiFi as well as our home Lan. My friend's problem is just with WiFi, but my problem seems have happended to both WiFi and the Hardwire connection. I have reinstalled the Drivers several times with no luck. I have rebooted multiple times and there is no change. The only thing I have found on Microsoft pages is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 but this was also tried and no luck. I have done everything but reinstall Vista, and would like to avoid doing this without a good copy of XP or Linux on hand. But perhaps there may be some kind hearted MCP who knows a good workaround for this problem. Thanks in advance.

I've used Vista on my wife's PC for about six months now. We just set up a wireless network. My pocket PC, in-laws PC (XP laptop), & work laptop (XP) all connect quickly and rarely drop the connection. The Vista laptop is horrible. It connects then drops. Then shows limited connectivity. My wife accuses me of picking a bad router or poor network configuration. Since 3 of 4 devices connect seamlessly and all these articles about how horribly Vista connects (& then drops connections), its plain to see that Microsoft released a SUB-PAR program (especially with what everyone wants, a wireless connection)Connections aren't the only issue with vista. Everything you do it asks if you want to perform that action. You can't re-name a directory or delete anything without a ton of trouble. Do not buy VISTA PCs, get linux or buy a licnese with XP. Vista is only half baked and not worth the headaches.Microsoft, go back to work and finish Vista wireless connections, set up a patch on automatic windows updates so we all don't have to keep racking our brains on how to fix this. Most of us aren't that tech savy and we don't want to waste hours working on this. Make it seamless...Frustrated,elb133
