Driver problem
I have a Hewlett Packard deskjet 4300 printer and usually I use HP's driver from the disk or website but I thought I'd take a bold risk and use the add printer wizard and try it this way. So I selected my device from the listto give windows 7 boxed drivers a fair chance and completed the wizard. The device appears in device manager and devices and printers but sad to say, does not work. I tried removing the device, re-installing the device and tried installing the original driver from the CD which usualy works but alas this time since using the windows 7 built in driver there seems to be no way to make it work. This behavior is typical of the drivers Microsoftincludes with the install DVDwhich are not fully compatible and this is true with two devices thatI know of, my video adaptor and printer. One thing I've learned and learned my lesson well about windows 7, is when it comes to drivers, always be certain to use the ones provided directly from the hardware manufacturer and avoidthose that come packaged with the installation media.

I had no unsurmountable problems with HP DJ D4100, Gave installer the disk which it used for driver alone rather than do HP install which includes more than I need. You do need the "Print Spool" Service auto & started. Also in control panel programs & features-> Turn windows features on & off on left, you may want to check the Print & Document services. If retrying install you should first remove any install that got done with device not attached to PC USB?,& after install, see if It shows with green Check indicator in Devices & Printers off the Start bar.

It has an ok check in devices and printers and the spool service is runnning. I have a .pdf printer and it's a virtual printer that creates .pdf documents and is working right now. My .xps printer works as well.
