How about posting an example? Carey Frisch Bear with me while I try and do a screen capture. Can I post jpgs in the forum? In DM Drive E: is labeled "echo" and Drive F: is labeled "foxtrot".In WE Drive E: appears as "1 500" and Drive F: appears as "1 1000", which were labels I had assigned a few days ago. There is an Autorun.inf file on these drives which I can't get into.

You need to put your screen capture on a site like PhotoBucket then post the Direct link URL here. That will put the image in the post you are creating.

OK, after booting into Safe Mode and much fiddling with the security tabs, rolling up of the left trouser leg, handstands, et cetera, I managed to get into Autorun .inf. It was empty. I deleted it. Correct label now shows up in WE.It seems the OS assigned the SATA drives as ReadyBoost Devices. I had not used the ReadyBoost feature.

Weird for sure. According to Wikipedia: ReadyBoost is a component of Microsoft Windows , first introduced with Windows Vista in 2006 and also included with Windows 7 . It works by using flash memory , USB 2.0 drive , SD card , CompactFlash or any kind of portable flash mass storage system as a drive for disk cache. ReadyBoost is also used to facilitate SuperFetch , an updated version of Windows XP 's prefetcher which performs analysis of boot-time disk usage patterns and creates a cache which is used in subsequent system boots.

I'm only guessing about ReadyBoost. I don't know where the Autorun.inf files came from. They weren't there after I formatted the drives. The only other thing that might be relevant is that I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.
