Dragging and dropping folders.
Hi everyone, I am having a problem with dragging my folders. For example, I am in my c drive or d drive and would like to drag a certain folder and leave it on the bottom of my screen for easier access, but when I let it go it goes back to it's original place .In vista and xp I was able to fix this problem but in win 7 I cannot .Any help will be much appreciated . Thank you

mkaks - I wasn't able to duplicate the problem. Two things come to mind. 1.) Make sure you've done a full and complete Windows Update. There is a known issue with regards to permissions that came with the 32 bit RC. This may be a symptom of this...2.) What folder are you trying to move? There are folders you probably don't want to try moving.

I am just trying to move some folders in my d drive to the bottom of my screen in the same drive for easier access, not on the desktop. But like an elastic it drags them back to the original spot and does not let me put them where I want .I am using the 64 bit version and it is up to date.

Try right-clicking a blank spot on the desktop. Then from that menu, un-check View >Auto-Arrange . (Or tinker around in there, you'll find it). In my version of win 7 64 bit I don't see that option "view" auto arrange while being in my c or d drive .It is only present when being on my desktop .On my desk top I am able to move anything around, from the left side of the screen to anywhere on desktop .Example, my computer I could drag it from the left side of the screen where it is located and put it on the lower right side of the desktop or any where else I want .In my c drive or d drive it does not let me drag a folder or file to anywhere I want to put it ,it just pulls it back to its original place .Weird, Microsoft should have a look at this .With the other operating systems win xp ,vista I did not have this problem I would just right click view and un tick auto arrange and that would be it but with this one is a no go .

mkaks - Ok.. So - if you're not putting the folders on your desktop - then you're trying to put them on your task bar?If that's the case, it should work - it should add the folder to the jump list to the default Windows Explorer that's already pinned there.

This is what I am trying to do ,drag folders in the same drive just to rearrange them but when I drag them and let go of the mouse button they go back to the original place.See the folder that I am dragging as soon as I let go of the mouse button it's gonna go back to where it first was .On the desk top dragging and dropping works just fine .

mkaks, derosnec is correct - in Windows 7, you are no longer allowed to drag and drop folders however you wish within Windows Explorer. They can be automatically sorted by many different criteria by using the View option. -Alex

That really sucks, Microsoft should change that because it's a very useful option.
