Downloads, games, itunes, and firefox detect no internet connection.
This has been a progressing problem, so I'll start from the beginning. I bought my HP Pavilion 6510t with Windows 7 64 bit about 3 months ago. After setting up, i downloaded itunes for 64 bit systems. Whenever I would attempt to access the itunes store, there would be an error message stating that there was no internet connection detected. Of course, this is not true, since I had other applications like IE up and running without a problem at the same time this occured. That was the first instance of the problem. Then, as I started to need more applications, I noticed that many of the downloads that i attempt (usually programs like online games or Java) would end up with a message similar to the itunes store's error. These downloads could not detect an internet connection, even when I tried to install 64 bit version of the software. And of course I was still connected to the internet, since I was on firefox and IE downloading these programs. About a month ago, after a Windows update, firefox stopped connecting as well. I have constantly been trying to redownload the program, but the same problem still exists. The same thing happened to IE after another windows update from about two weeks ago. I had to do a system restore to the date before the update was installed, and if I do install the update again, it will block IE's connection again (I've tried). I know there are driver issues that occur often, so I went on to HP's website to get some solutions for my specific model. When I try to download these drivers, the same message pops up, stating that there is no internet connection detected. I've looked around many sites, but no case seems to affect so many programs and downloads like mine. Is there an obvious solution I am overlooking? Or is it possibly a culmination of problems that lead to this consistent annoyance? One note: When looking around for solutions, there was one problem I could see that might give a hint. Apparently my IPv4 Adress is noy supposed to end in zeros? Mine ends in .0.50. Step 3, 3rd #1 of this help site says this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01927499&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=4242356 Is that actaully a problem? How do I remedy it if it is?

You probably have more than one issue. If it was me, I would wipe the computer and restore it to factory settings, or simply reload Windows. With regard to the updates causing issues, a word of advice for future update installations...try to stick with installing Critical security patches. Read over the severity of the patch. If it is categorized low or moderate, only install the patch if it seems appicable to what you are running. Those identified as "Important" should proabably be installed as well, but you should do your research. When it comes to installing updates specfiic to vendor software, I always prefer obtaining the software from the vendor's site rather than Windows Update. Your question about the IP ending in zeros... the HP link you provided references this "Write down the IPv4 Address for use in Step 4. The last three numbers should not end with zero.". They are referring to the last octect in an IP address. So if your IP is 192.168.0.50, the reference is to the last octect which would be "50".Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
